Ammolite is a rare, opal-like gemstone that forms by the mineralisation of the shells of ammonites, which consist mostly of the mineral aragonite. Confined largely to the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, it is regarded by some as the 'national' stone of Canada. Size: 1.5cm.
