Agate 129 » Add to Gallery This image is from a specimen from a mine near Parral in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, which was once a busy centre of silver mining. The dark dendritic (leaf-like) formations develop between bands after crystallisation, generally due to inclusions of iron or manganese oxide. Size: 5cm. Snow, clouds, mountains, flying fragments of conifers - what a wonderfully evocative combination of images!
