Agate 103
This is a perfect example of agate formation, with the concentric bands completely filling the void. The differentiation between bands is very clear yet delicate, and the subtle blue-grey colour is most likely due to traces of titanium in the original silica-rich gel.
Size: 8cm.
Agate collectors generally seek out specimens with richly varied colours. This uniformly coloured example is, however, amongst my favourites and the key to its beauty lies in the appearance of three-dimensional relief created by the contrast between fluffy-edged light and dark bands.
